Up Close Week 1

## Day 1: Jesus Meets Us in Our Mess
**Scripture:** John 4:6-7
> "Jacob’s well was there; and Jesus, tired from the long walk, sat wearily beside the well about noontime. Soon a Samaritan woman came to draw water, and Jesus said to her, 'Please give me a drink.'"
In this passage, we see Jesus meeting the Samaritan woman at the well—a place she frequented to avoid the judgment of others. Despite cultural norms, Jesus engages with her right in the middle of her mess. This teaches us that no matter how messy our lives may seem, Jesus is willing to meet us right where we are. He is not waiting for us to have everything fixed before He engages with us.
**Prayer:** *Lord, thank You for meeting me in my mess. Help me to be open to Your presence in every area of my life. Amen.*
**Reflect:** What area of your life do you feel is too messy for Jesus to enter?

## Day 2: The Gift of Living Water
**Scripture:** John 4:10
> "Jesus replied, 'If you only knew the gift God has for you and who you are speaking to, you would ask me, and I would give you living water.'"
Jesus offers the Samaritan woman "living water"—a metaphor for the eternal and satisfying life He provides. Often, we seek fulfillment in things that ultimately leave us empty. Jesus provides what truly satisfies, offering us a relationship with Him that quenches our deepest spiritual thirst. This passage encourages us to recognize the divine gift Jesus offers and to seek satisfaction in Him alone.
**Prayer:** *Jesus, help me to seek the living water You offer and not settle for temporary satisfactions. Amen.*
**Reflect:** What have you been turning to for satisfaction that leaves you empty?

## Day 3: Honesty Without Fear
**Scripture:** John 4:17-18
> "Jesus said, 'You’re right! You don’t have a husband—for you have had five husbands, and you aren’t even married to the man you’re living with now. You certainly spoke the truth!'"
Jesus acknowledges the truth of the Samaritan woman's situation without condemnation. This shows us that we can be honest with Jesus about our struggles and fears without fear of rejection. His approach is one of truth wrapped in love, inviting us to be vulnerable and genuine before Him.
**Prayer:** *Lord, give me the courage to be honest with You about my life, knowing that You offer grace and truth. Amen.*
**Reflect:** What truth in your life have you been avoiding bringing to Jesus?

## Day 4: Breaking the Cycle of Insufficiency
**Scripture:** John 4:13-14
> "Jesus replied, 'Anyone who drinks this water will soon become thirsty again. But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.'"
The Samaritan woman repeatedly returned to the well for water, symbolic of how we often return to unsatisfying habits or relationships. Jesus offers a way to break this cycle by providing something eternal and fulfilling. This challenges us to examine what we habitually return to that fails to satisfy and to instead embrace the fullness that Jesus offers.
**Prayer:** *Father, help me recognize and break free from the cycles in my life that do not satisfy. Amen.*
**Reflect:** What is one habit or cycle you need to surrender to Jesus for true satisfaction?
---
## Day 5: Sharing Your Encounter with Jesus
**Scripture:** John 4:28-29
> "The woman left her water jar beside the well and ran back to the village, telling everyone, 'Come and see a man who told me everything I ever did! Could he possibly be the Messiah?'"
After her encounter with Jesus, the Samaritan woman eagerly shares her experience with others, despite her imperfect story. This demonstrates that our encounters with Jesus are powerful enough to share, even when our lives are not fully figured out. Our testimonies are meant to invite others to "come and see" what Jesus has done.
**Prayer:** *Jesus, give me the courage to share my story with others, trusting that You will use it for Your glory. Amen.*
**Reflect:** Who can you invite to "come and see" what Jesus has done in your life this week?
