Up Close--Week 2

Day 1: Seeing the Overlooked
**Scripture:** Matthew 8:3
"Jesus reached out and touched him, saying, 'I want to. Be clean.'"

In Matthew 8, Jesus demonstrates His willingness to engage with those whom society has cast aside. By reaching out to the leper, He exemplifies how we should see those the world overlooks. Jesus' compassion was not just in words but in action, inviting us to consider who in our lives might feel unseen. Are there people in your community who need a touch of kindness or a word of encouragement? We’re called to be the hands and feet of Jesus, closing the gap between us and those in need.

**Prayer:** *Lord, open my eyes to see those around me who feel invisible. Help me extend Your love and grace to them today. Amen.*

**Reflect:** Who in my life might be feeling overlooked, and how can I reach out to them this week?

Day 2: Moving Toward the Mess
**Scripture:** Matthew 8:1-2
"Then a leper appeared and dropped to his knees before Jesus, praying, 'Master, if you want to, you can heal my body.'

Jesus didn’t shy away from the leper's mess; instead, He moved toward it. Often, we find ourselves stepping back when situations seem too complicated. But Jesus shows us that transformation happens when we step into the mess, not away from it. Reflect on the areas in your life where you’ve created distance. What would it look like to move toward those places with the love and courage of Christ?

**Prayer:** *Jesus, give me the courage to move toward the messes in my life with love and grace. Amen.*

**Reflect:** Where have I created distance due to discomfort, and how can I move toward those areas with compassion?

---

Day 3: The Power of Touch
**Scripture:** Matthew 8:3
"Jesus reached out and touched him, saying, 'I want to. Be clean.

The act of touching the leper was more than a miracle; it was a declaration of love and acceptance. Jesus’ touch restored the leper physically and socially, reminding us that genuine compassion requires closeness. Consider how you can offer a 'touch'—a kind word, a listening ear, or a helping hand—to those around you. Our actions can be a conduit for God's healing and restoration in others’ lives.

**Prayer:** *Father, help me to be a tangible expression of Your love to those in need. Amen.*

**Reflect:** How can I offer a 'touch' of kindness to someone who needs it today?

---

Day 4: Overcoming Barriers
**Scripture:** Mark 1:41
"Filled with compassion, Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man.

Barriers often prevent us from engaging with those who need us most. Whether it’s fear, busyness, or discomfort, these obstacles can feel insurmountable. However, Jesus teaches us to overcome such barriers with compassion. Reflect on what barriers might be holding you back from reaching out to others. Ask God to help you overcome these challenges and empower you to act with His love and courage.

**Prayer:** *Lord, break down the barriers in my heart that prevent me from loving others as You do. Amen.*

**Reflect:** What barriers are preventing me from reaching out, and how can I overcome them with God’s help?

---

Day 5: Living and Sharing the Truth
**Scripture:** Matthew 8:4
"Your cleansed and grateful life, not your words, will bear witness to what I have done.

Jesus urged the healed leper to let his transformed life speak louder than words. As followers of Christ, our lives should reflect the transformative power of His love. Living out this truth means actively engaging with others and sharing His love in practical ways. Imagine the impact on your community if everyone embraced this call. Let your actions today be a testimony of God’s love and grace.

**Prayer:** *Jesus, may my life bear witness to Your love and grace. Help me to be a shining light in my community. Amen.*

**Reflect:** How can my life be a testimony of Christ's love to those around me today?
